music: The Land Before Time III - When You're Big
For those who don't know what's the problem, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzsm068R3
I'm aware that this movie wasn't a big production like Little Mermaid, Pocahontas or other Disney movies but it seems strange that Disney would let this movie pass just like that. Come on! It's not only horrible to watch that part of the movie but awful to listen to! That person who was responsible for this did very lousy job. I'm sorry but I can't help it. This is not acceptable.
So what are the major flaws in this? There are many but I paid most of my attention to the parts where's Ratigan. Look at that part where Ratigan tears his cape. That just demands some kind of noise. Grunting, shouting or something! Or the part where his running and grabs Basil. Where is the heavy breathing? Where is snarling? Or anything? How can this be possible?!
Okay, maybe I'm overreacting here. But this is so strange. Now if they couldn't afford to pay Vincent Price and Barrie Ingham to do those silly noises, then why they didn't just take a random guy to do them? No one would notice if someone else than Price was doing all those snarling and roaring noises.
If you have answers or even theories why all this happened, feel free to comment. I would like to know what happened here.

music: Warren G & Rapsody & Sissel - Prince Igor
It took me a while berofe I actually found the version that I wanted. All I could find were these weird techno and remix versions of it. They're so.. awful. Do people actually listen to these? They're not that good. Not at all. Or maybe Iäm too old for that kind of stuff, I don't really know or even care.
Just when I was ready to lose all my hope, I finally I found the right version. It was sang by Sissel and it plays in a boring rap song called Rapsody - Prince Igor. Damn, she sings it so beautifully on the chorus part.
And really, people. Forget those damn remix versions. They're not worth it. Don't even try to listen to them!

I watched yesterday two episodes of Boston Legal from DVD. Man, I had really forgotten how cool the show is! I love every single thing about it. The characters (every one of them!), legal battles, crazy storylines, the balance between comedy and drama.. Why I stopped watching this show? Oh, yes, I watched the second season's every episode in a row last year. That really took all the juice from the show. ... Good times.
I saw an episode of Pushing Daisies last week. I don't care so much of fairy tale-ish stories but I really like the colours in the show. For a person like me who doesn't understand colours at all, this show is pure eyecandy. It makes me stare at the screen and wonder "I didn't know there was colour combinations like that.." Yes, I'm that pitiful when it comes to colours.
However, I don't know if I'm going to watch the show. It's not too late, I have missed just the first 5 episodes. And besides, each episode tells in the beginning what has happened in the previous episode. I know what's the plot (if there is any) and I'm pretty familiar with the characters already, so.. I still have a chance. But I'm too lazy to watch any shows nowadays. I wanted to start watching Breaking Bad and Life but I always forget to watch them or my mind just wanders around during the show. Damn me.
And about Bolt, it was okay movie. Is was not memorable, probably because it didn't have any clear faults or good sides. In few words, the characters were okay (Mittens was a great character and oh boy, her voice in Finnish dub rocked!), the story worked as planned and the animation was good. The emotions were incredibly real in the movie, I really felt sorry for Bolt when he saw Penny with other dog. And when Bolt was protecting Penny and growling at people when there was no need, it was amazing. It felt real. They really nailed that one.
And before they delete all the Late Night With Conan O'Brien videos, I have to say that this is my favorite sketch of all time.

Wow. I still have this? Cool.
Nothing special. Just got The Art of Bolt book. Pretty good but there wasn't so much character sketches as I hoped and the lack of American Dog consept art bothered me too.
Hopefully the movie is good.

The Dark Knight: Featuring Production Art and Full Shooting Script
All coming from Amazon.com. Hell YEAH!
And now the review of Kung Fu Panda.
I got the worst seats that I could get so it took a while before I started to enjoy the movie. I was too close the screen and my back hurt very much. I had this urge to get away from the screen as much as I could but I couldn't jump from my seat and go somewhere else to sit. But after 10 minutes I got used to it and focused in the movie.
Most of the humor was pretty cheap or how should I say this.. too "easy"? Maybe it's just me but I didn't laugh for many jokes like the audience did. People have their own sense of humor and I respect that but I wanted more intelligent humor. But when we are talking about summer hit movie and it's Dream Works.. nope, you can't have those. Only few jokes were unexpected and really good.
Characters were very appealing but I was disappointed that they didn't use Furious Five's characters so much. None of them were supporting characters (well, maybe the Tigress) so it felt strange that the film makers hired huge celebrities for voice acting but they didn't have much lines to say in the end. What a waste for the studio and the story. There could had been some problems with the movie's length if they had decided to make deeper personalities for the Furious Five's characters. But if you ask me, it could have been more interesting and fun to watch. And the bad guy, Tai Ling.. he was boring. Such a typical bad guy who is just evil and that's it.
My personal favorite was Master Shifu, even though I had problems to get used to his voice. I like Dustin Hoffman as an actor (and his voice) but it sounded so strange to hear his old and low voice coming from so small creature. But in the end it was a perfect choice. The character and the voice matched like they should in animated movies. Perfect.
I absolutely loved the colours. I've always thought that CG movies are great making different colours and shadings. Everything is fresh and bright. I personally don't know so much about colours and I find them hard to use, so maybe that's why I find them so fascinating if they are made right and in interesting way.
I was disappointed in the Kung Fu fighting. Everything was too fast and impossible to follow. If the film makers had made the movie for older audience and had serious story, the fights could have been more accurate. I enjoy watching animated movies where movements are believable and based on real life. Here I got a feeling that they studied Kung Fu but decided to make it look so cool as possible. Which means "Let's shoot this scene very close and move the camera so fast that the audience feels like they are in the middle of the fight!!". Yes, that thing works if you do it right. In this movie they used it too much.
There was too much jumping too. It gave a feeling like the characters didn't have any mass in them and that they were full of air. Especially Tai Lung was missing all the weight and mass. I didn't find him threatening at all because of that.
It seemed that there was an error in the scene where Shifu and Po were laying on the floor in the end of the movie. Po's shadow didn't cover Shifu's face like it should in that kind of lightning. It looked like they erased some shadow so that audience can see both of them clearly.
The animation in the ending credits was beautiful. I had seen it before on internet but seeing it on the huge screen was wonderful.
Overall, the movie was entertaining but I missed deep character personalities. This could have been excellent movie if it had darker, serious and original story. Of course a giant fat Panda learning Kung Fu is original but you can always think more stuff than that.
Yeah.

GNG-yhteisössä on vaikea tehdä fanitaidetta ja minä näytän miksi.

music: C-4 - San Diego

Really. Avatar the last airbender?
May. 8th, 2008 | 01:03 am
It seems that I'm a fan of the Avatar series. I occasionally watch some episodes those interest me and read all the random discussion about the characters / plot but that's all. What really appeals me is that this show has strong female characters and good humor. And Sokka.. now that's a great character! One of the best things that the series has. Now if Sokka only had huge eyebrows he would be the best character ever made in history.
It's pretty funny to notice that when I find new series I instantly start to like the dark skinned characters. Kovu from The Lion King 2, Hattori Heiji from Detective Conan, Sokka.. Probably because they have great personalities and sense of humor. I don't know.
Oh, yeah. I was in London for a week and came back few days ago. It was an interesting trip. We (me and the Joutseno institute where I'm studying this year) went to the zoo, Madame Tussaud's place and walked a lot. It wasn't the best trip but at least I bought "The illusion of life" book which I've been drooling over for a while. It cost about 37 pounds but it was worth it!
It would be good practice to speak more English out loud. I have noticed that I'm not pronouncing some words correctly and most of the time I end up repeating the same word many times. Well, that's what you get when you don't speak English so often. Time to change that.

Short movie "review" (spoilers)
Apr. 19th, 2008 | 08:29 pm
It's hard to say if I like this movie or not because of the main character. At first you would think that he's just an ordinary man, who just has a bad day and people are getting in his way at the wrong time. Well, it goes like that at first but when the movie goes on it's getting even harder to decide is this guy extremely awesome character (as a movie character I mean) or very bad. He smashes stuff with a baseball bat because he can't get change to call his wife, takes some guns from a gang who tried to kill him, points a gun at the workers at the fast food restaurant because he just can't have breakfast.. The list goes on. The main character is.. tragic, but in a sick way pretty humorous. This can't be explained, you have to see it for yourself.
I got one of those Die Hard feelings while watching this movie. It was probably because of the quality of the film and how the hot weather was showed. Everything is dry, very sunny and the movie has yellowish and brown colours. All these made me think Die Hard 3 which includes the same elements. How funny.
Too bad that I'm not American because if I were I could see this movie in different perspective. There was so much critic of the society but that all felt pointless because.. well, I'm not American.
If someone hasn't seen Falling Down, I recommend to watch it. The perfect way to enjoy this film would be on a very hot day. I haven't tried that one yet but I will.
And the other news: I want to see Guilty Conscience again.
And why Die Hard was named "A Hard Nut to Crack" in Russia? And "The Glass Trap" in Poland? "The Crystal Trap" in France? I'm laughing and crying at the same time here. Especially the Russian one.

About artbooks
Mar. 22nd, 2008 | 07:15 pm
I don't have many artbooks but when I buy one, I never have expectations what it should include. If there's interviews and such, those are nice surprices, but usually it doesn't matter. As long as there's lot's of pictures of the final works, sketches and artist's comments, I'm happy with it.
But what about you? What are your thoughts about comments and sketches? Here's some questions that I would like you to answer.
Artbook with artist's comments
It's common that the artist says something about his/her work in artbook. Which of these you prefer most?
a) Lots of huge pictures on every page without artist's comments.
b) Huge pictures with short comments.
c) Medium / Huge pictures with long comments.
The final work
There's different kinds of artbooks out there. When it comes to pictures, you prefer seeing
a) only the finished works.
b) the final work and some sketches of it.
c) lot's of sketches and maybe pictures of the progress. Oh, and the final work of course.
Well?
